Like A Child

Like A Child

by | 1, Aug 2020 | From Our Pastors

God calls us to have faith like a child, trust like a child, and to feed on the pure Word of God like a child feeds on its mother’s milk. God also requires His children to put away childish behaviour, talk and thinking.

“Then they brought little children to him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them, but when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the Kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it. and He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16

Isn’t it interesting that Jesus wanted the children to come to Him yet the disciples had an issue with this. You see the Disciples thought the children were insignificant yet Jesus shows us no one is insignificant.

There are some keys we must understand;

#1. Jesus cares for your kids and it doesn’t matter where they are at or what they are going through, you need to take your children to Him in prayer.

#2. God sees you and I as His children and we must see ourselves as His children whom cry out ABBA Father. We must approach Him as Jesus taught us “Our Father” who art in heaven.

#3. The Kingdom of God is only for those who are humble and have a dependence on God like little children to their parents. This is how the Kingdom of God works.

We require a childlike faith. Childlike faith can be labelled as “arrogant faith”, “name it claim it people”, and so on. Let me say this, if the Word of God says it, I believe it, therefore I speak it. If God says it, you should believe it, that settles it.

It’s time to mature in Christ, AMEN!

“Brothers and sisters, do not be children [immature, childlike] in your thinking;
be infants in [matters of] evil [completely innocent and inexperienced], but in your minds be mature [adults].” 1 Corinthians 14:20

The Apostle Paul warns us against immature thinking and conduct, yet calls us to walk in a maturity in how we treat each other and outwork the things of God in our lives.

There is a difference between being CHILDLIKE versus CHILDISH!

I believe God is saying we as a Church family and the Body of Christ need to get back to the pure Word, back to the roots of faith – the Word!

“Therefore, laying aside all malice (wrong intentions), all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking (gossip), as newborn babes, desire (yearn for) the pure milk of the Word,
that you may grow thereby,” 1 Peter 2:1-2

In other words we don’t need to chase every wind of doctrine, every move that leaves us with goosebumps and yet unchanged! We need the Word of God that changes us, challenges us and matures us!

Growth comes when we put away mature behaviour and thinking including gossip and wrong intentions, and changing that negative energy into productive pressing into the Word of God, the pure Word where Jesus is the centre and He is magnified over all things, “even man’s opinions”.

The pure milk refers to deceitful, not counterfeit, unadulterated, not mixed or diluted with religion or man’s opinions. I want to encourage you in this time, more than ever, desire the Word of God, thirst for God’s Word and be a doer of the Word in deed, action, thought and speech. The reason God put in place the five fold ministry, leadership over the Body of Christ is to equip, shepherd and guard the saints from deception. Furthermore to help mature the Body into the fullness of what God has set before them to become. You can go read the entire Ephesians 4. I wanted to highlight the portion below.

“That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— Ephesians 4:14-15

May the Holy Spirit help you grow into all He has called you to be. May we RESIST CHILDISH behaviour, actions, thoughts and words, yet BE CHILDLIKE in our faith, trust, and dependence on God, The Word and the Holy Spirit in Jesus Name.
