Don’t Forsake the Gathering

Don’t Forsake the Gathering

by | 1, Oct 2020 | From Our Pastors

We live in a day, where information is at our fingertips through the internet, fast foods are virtually at every corner and the world is moving at a rapid pace. The sad thing is, we try and place God in the same “Box”.

You see there is such blessing in gathering with the saints, in small gatherings as well as corporate worship. This is also a place where the Holy Spirit creates space for our characters to be developed, our gifts to be stirred and the place where truth is established.

When we see the household of God, our Church as a family and training centre we will begin to see things differently. Most of us, would never want to be at a family event where some family are the partakers or servants if you like, while the remainder always get waited on or remain the spectators.

Psalms 92:13-14 “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,”

The Psalmist tells us that those who are planted shall bear much fruit even in old age. Not fruits by the worlds standards, but fruit by the Kingdom of God’s standards.

We are all called to be planted in a local Church for various reasons. We all have something to offer in the form of both spiritual and administrative gifting, and for some ministry gifting and assignments.

I love what Brother Jerry Savelle said;

“The place where God plants you is your vineyard. It’s where your harvest is.”

I have seen this in my life and others, and it is true!

Hebrews 10:23-25 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.”

Now, I’m not sure about you, but the world has gone a bit crazy currently. I see there are lots of signs that the Lord could come at any time. That’s what the above scripture suggests, “Don’t forsake the gathering of the saints, especially in that day”. Well we are in that day!

We need each other! We are many parts but one body. There is much work to do in the days ahead. Not only that, we need to be encouraging one another more than ever before and holding up our brothers and sisters in the household of faith.

We are told to hold fast to our confession of our faith, our faith in the finished work of Christ as well as to stir up good works.

Church gathering is a New Testament concept! Still relevant today!

As a born again spirit filled believer, there should be a natural hunger and desire to regularly attend the “Plantation” Local Church where God has called you to be. The Apostle Paul confirms this in Hebrews 10:23-25 and also confirms it in 1 Timothy 3:14-15 that Church is still relevant today.

1 Timothy 3:14-15
These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly; but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

The “House of God” referred to here is talking about the place of worship or gathering and is clearly defined as a pillar where truth is spoken concerning the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things. It is a place where the saints are equipped, encouraged and inspired. It’s a place where we give back to God and corporately lift His name high, in return the Holy Spirit ministers to the saints what He wills at that time and season.

It is a place of power, freedom, truth and enlightenment. It is a place where God’s children encourage one another and build one another up in the faith.

Saints of God, Heritage of Faith Church Family, don’t be deceived nor become complacent in these days. Of course this is said under grace not law, yet in align with truth, I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen you, open your spiritual eyes to God’s purpose and plan for your local Church, for your part in it, then get planted and stay planted. This is when you will begin to bear much fruit until Jesus returns.

I leave you with the heart of the Psalmist. I pray that each one of us are reminded that when we come together, not only are we a family, not only are we encouraged to gather regularly and bring our part, but we are also reminded that when we come together it’s a Holy Ghost celebration of how Great our God really is!

Psalm 150:1-6
Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heavens!
Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Praise Him with trumpet sound; praise Him with lute and harp!
Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with strings and pipe!
Praise Him with sounding cymbals; praise Him with loud clashing cymbals! …
